Prof. Ronald J. Daniels became the 14th president of The Johns Hopkins University in March 2009. Prior to his election, Daniels served as provost of the University of Pennsylvania. Throughout his career, Prof. Daniels has been a vigorous advocate for interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching, as well as for the role of universities in addressing our most challenging local, national, and international issues.
An attorney and legal scholar, his research focuses on the intersections of law, economics and public policy, in such areas as corporate and securities law, social and economic regulation and the role of law and legal institutions in promoting third world development. He is the author or editor of seven books, and the author or co-author of dozens of scholarly articles.
Prof. Daniels earned an LLM from Yale University in 1988 and his BA in 1982 and JD in 1986 from the University of Toronto, where he served as co-editor-in-chief of the law review. In 2009, he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
