Dr. Martin Indyk is Vice President and Director of the Foreign Policy Program at The Brookings Institution. He previously served twice as U.S. Ambassador to Israel (1995-1997 and 2000-2001), Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and Special Assistant to President Bill Clinton and Senior Director for Near East and South Asia at the National Security Council.
Dr. Indyk was the founding director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at Brookings. His latest book is Innocent Abroad: An Intimate Account of American Peacemaking Diplomacy in the Middle East. His current research focuses on American foreign policy, as well as Middle East affairs. He was the first (and second) Jewish ambassador of the United States to Israel.
