Professor Baruch Nevo

Professor Baruch Nevo heads the Army and Society Forum at the Israel Democracy Institute. He is currently a professor at the University of Haifa’s Department of Psychology, and is the President of Zefat College.

Professor Nevo received a B.A. in psychology and statistics in 1965, an M.A. in clinical psychology in 1968, and a Ph.D. in psychology in 1972, all from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Professor Nevo was a Visiting Fellow at several universities, including Yale University, NUS in Singapore, and at the University of North Carolina; and a Visiting Researcher at the Deutsche Institut fur Internationale Padagogische Forschung, in Germany and at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey.

Professor Nevo previously served as Director of the National Institute for Testing & Evaluation and as Co-Director of the Center for Research in Peace Education. He is currently a member of the Israel Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association - Foreign Affiliate. Professor Nevo has done research for many different institutes and organizations, for the Israel Defense Forces, Bank Hapoalim, and the ministry of Education.

Professor Nevo has served on the National Committee for Gifted Education at the Ministry of Education since 2002. He has served on many national committees, including the Committee for Learning Disabilities in Higher Education, VATAT (2000-2007), the National Survey of Educational Achievements (Mashov) Professional Committee (1994-1999), the National Institute for Testing and Evaluation Research Committee (1989- Present), the Government Advising Committee for Professional Issues of Occupational and Industrial Psychology in Israel (1978-1986), and the Israel Foundation Trustees (1989-1996), to name only a few.

Since 1968, Professor Nevo has been published. He has written and edited books, articles, exams, and book reviews including: “A Phenomenon of Overqualification in Personnel Psychology” (with S. Fine, International Journal of Testing, in press); "The Smarts that Counts: Psychologists' Decision Making in Personnel Selection". (with L.
