Biography
Dr. Nabil Khattab is a Senior Researcher at IDI and the head of its Arab-Jewish Relations project. He is also a Senior Lecturer in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Department of Sociology. Dr. Khattab’s academic work examines social divisions, socio-economic inequality, space and social exclusion and their inter-relationship, which are studied quantitatively. His analyses consider, among other things, the impact of ethno-religious background and spatial segregation on the labor market.
Dr. Khattab's holds a B.A. in Sociology and Education (1991) and an M.A. in Sociology and Demography (1993). His doctoral work, which was completed in 2002, explored the aspirations and expectations of Palestinian students in Israel with regard to education and employment. All three of his degrees were received from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Before joining the faculty of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Dr. Khattab was a RCUK research fellow (2007-2009) , a lecturer in Sociology at the University of Bristol (2003-2006), and a Marie Curie post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Manchester (2002-2003). At the University of Bristol, he was a member of the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship, where he examined how religious-ethnic background influences employment achievement in Britain. He also participated in research on the relationship between religious differences and social deprivation in Britain, as well as in the analysis of research data concerning the integration of young adults in the labor market in England.
Dr. Khattab has published widely in many peer-reviewed journals, among them Sociology, Regional Studies, Sociological Research Online, and Social Psychology of Education. A list of his selected publications can be found below.
