A research assistant at IDI since 2004, Michael Philippov is currently conducting research within the framework of IDI’s Forum for Political Reform in Israel. Previously, as part of his work for IDI’s Guttman Center, he was involved in the writing of The Elections in Israel 2006 and five volumes of the annual Israeli Democracy Index (2005-2010).

Mr. Philippov completed his B.A. (2003) and M.A. (2006) in Political Science at the University of Haifa, and is currently a doctoral student in Political Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He he is writing his dissertation on a comparative study of socio-economic and political socialization among immigrants from the former Soviet Union in Israel and in Germany.

Born in the Ukraine, Mr. Philippov immigrated to Israel in 1992, and served in the Communication and Electronics Corps of the IDF from 1996–1999. Beyond his work on publications for IDI, Mr. Philippov’s writings include Ex-Soviets in the Israeli Political Space: Values, Attitudes and Electoral Behavior (Joseph and Alma Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies, 2010).
