On June 29, 2011, Sheikh Raed Salah, the leader of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel, who was convicted by Israeli courts for terror-related offenses, was arrested in the United Kingdom. Salah had managed to enter the UK despite a ban that was issued against his entry into the country. UK Home Secretary Theresa May issued the ban on the grounds that his presence in the UK was deemed not conducive to the public good. After the British authorities were notified of Salah’s presence in their territory, he was detained for illegal entry into the country. On July 18, 2011, Salah was released on bail from his detention at the order of the British High Court in order to facilitate his deportation back to Israel.
