The media is indeed one of the most powerful factors in shaping the Israeli public's agenda and opinions. The Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) aspires to become the center of debate on the role of the media in Israeli democracy. IDI’s Seventh Eye Journal, now web-based, is recognized as the foremost platform for evaluation and critique of the Israeli media. A variety of initiatives are underway to help the press meet the challenges of the Internet era and retain its vital role as watchdog over Israel’s embattled democracy. Additionally, IDI’s Media and Democracy project assesses and analyzes political discourse in the Israeli media in the light of the normative goals of a healthy democratic society.
