IDI's Human Rights and Judaism Project is designed to give new meaning to the concept of Israel as a "Jewish and democratic State." Headed by IDI Vice President Prof. Yedidia Stern and Senior Fellow Prof. Shahar Lifshitz, this project aims to expose the common ground between “Jewish” and “democratic” by training an elite cadre of scholars to uncover the roots of modern human rights doctrine, while exploring Jewish tradition’s contribution to human rights.
The Human Rights and Judaism project is currently seeking outstanding young researchers for a three-year fellowship program that will begin in the 2011-2012 academic year. Up to six doctoral students will receive a generous annual stipend to serve as IDI researchers and participate in the varied activities of this project, as they complete their studies.
