IDI's Forum for Political Reform Presents Findings to Knesset
|
IDI's Forum for Political Reform made headlines on March 28, 2011, as it rolled out a major study of the Israeli political system and a series of proposed reforms. Headed by Former President of the Israeli Supreme Court Meir Shamgar, the Forum presented a wide range of recommendations to Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin. The proposed reforms were based on in-depth research on Israel's political system and a comparative study of best practices from 35 other democracies.

Prof. Ruth Gavison to Receive 2011 Israel Prize for Legal Research
Prof. Ruth Gavison, IDI Senior Fellow Emeritus, has been named as the recipient of the 2011 Israel Prize for legal research. The author of the Gavison-Medan Covenant, Prof. Gavison is being recognized for her contribution to shaping Israel's unique identity as a Jewish and democratic state, and for her efforts to promote co-exsitence between Jews and Arabs, as well as religious and non-religious Jews.

IDI Scholars Speak Out on Current Issues
IDI Senior Researcher Yair Sheleg asserts that Zionism must reject the ultra-Orthodox view on conversion, arguing that Jewish identity is not only a reflection of religious observance but also of identification with Zionism and Jewish culture.
Senior Fellow Tamar Hermann co-authored an op-ed in the Jerusalem Post entitled Israel's Democratic Veneer, which warned of a "climate change" in Israeli Jewish public opinion that raises concerns about the viability of Israeli democracy.
