IDI fellows and researchers often represent the IDI at different events around the world. Below are just some of the upcoming and the latest events...

On February 19th, 2008, at Monash University, Professor Yedidia Stern, under the auspices of the Leon Liberman Chair of Modern Israel Studies, was one of three Israeli scholars to lead a one-day workshop for postgraduate students about issues of nationalism, liberal democracy, religion, and ethnicity in the context of modern Israel from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. The workshop was hosted by the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation.

IDI Senior Fellow Professor Yedidia Stern gave the keynote address at the Australian Association of Jewish Studies' 20th Annual Conference at Monash University on February 17th, 2008. The Conference was titled: "A People that Dwells Apart”? Exploring the Boundaries of Jewishness, and Professor Stern's lecture was on The Identity Crises of the State of Israel. Professor Stern's visit to Melbourne was sponsored by the Leon Liberman Chair of Modern Israel Studies. The conference was hosted by the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation and was open to the public.

On the September 9th - 11th, 2007, IDI's Professor Yedidia Stern participated in the International Congress DiReCom in Lugano, Switzerland. The topic was Politics without Religion? and Professor Stern's lecture was entitled "Secular State, Religious Membership and Legal System: Jewish Perspective." The last day of the congress was held in the Vatican with Pope Benedict XVI.

Adv. Daniel Reisner from IDI's National Security and Democracy project participated in the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism's (ICT's) 7th Annual Conference on September 8-11, 2007 in Herzliya. More than 70 experts from over 15 countries around the world attended. Read more about ICT's conference.

On September 6th, 2007, IDI Senior Researcher Adv. Daniel Reisner spoke as a respondent at a guest lecture series on international humanitarian law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. At this conference, given by the Minerva Center of Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross, Adv. Reisner responded to Mr. Kenneth Roth, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch (HRW), who spoke about the Second Lebanon War.

In Rome, on June 30th, 2007, IDI Senior Fellow Professor Asher Arian participated in a conference given by the ISSSC (Institute for the Study of Secularism in Society and Culture) about The Prospects for the Secular State in the Mediterranean World in the 21st Century. Professor Arian participated in a panel on The Challenge of pluralism to the establishment of the Secular State in a talk entitled In Name Only: For Some, Israel is Already a Secular State.

On April 25th, 2007, IDI Senior Fellow Professor Asher Arian attended the third international conference on security at Dokuz Eylul University, in Izmir, Turkey. The topic of the conference was challenges to Middle East security and the contribution of international organizations. Professor Arian spoke about The Arab-Israeli Conflict: Jewish Public Opinion in Israel 1987-2006.

On May 9th, 2007, IDI Senior Fellow Professor Asher Arian spoke at a 5-day conference held by the ECPR (European Consortium for Political Research) The conference was on Politicizing Socio-Cultural Structures: Elite and Mass Perspectives on Cleavages and was held in Helsinki.

On April 2nd-5th, 2006, over 600 participants from nearly 120 countries came together for the World Movement for Democracy's Fourth Assembly in Istanbul, Turkey, including IDI's Senior Fellow Asher Arian and Editor in Chief of Publications and Director of the International Outreach department Uri Dromi. Col. Dromi spoke in the workshop on Creating a Higher Education Network for Democracy and Professor Arian spoke about the Israeli Democracy Index in a workshop that discussed Measuring Democracy.
