The State of Israeli Democracy: An Event Marking Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day

Event Date(s):
11/8/2011
What is current state of Israeli democracy? Is it really in danger, as some claim, or do the variety of its voices testify to its strength? Is the Supreme Court the last bastion of democracy, or is it an ivory tower, oblivious and insensitive to the nation’s true wishes? Is the combination of “Judaism and democracy” realizable or is it a powder keg waiting to explode at any moment? These questions will be discussed at the following event marking Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day.

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, IDI will join Beit Avi Chai in hosting an evening on Israeli democracy marking Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day. During this event, journalist Dana Weiss will lead three discussions featuring the following scholars and public figures:

  • MK Zehava Gal-On (Meretz) and Prof. Yedidia Z. Stern, IDI Vice President of research

  • MK Ze’ev Elkin (Likud), Coalition Chairman, and Dr. Alex Jacobson of the Department of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

  • A discussionabout media, truth, power, and government with Moshe Negbi, legal affairs commentator on Voice of Israel radio

Admission is free, subject to available space. Tickets will be available starting at 7:00 p.m.

The event will be conducted in Hebrew.
