Israel as a Democracy Symposium: Session 1

Event Date(s):
11/2/2009

In 2009-2010, IDI is engaged in a major educational effort in North America. The 'Israel as a Democracy' symposium series, being piloted in Atlanta, GA, is leading a debate on some of the most critical domestic challenges facing Israel today. This community-wide forum allows participants to explore issues of governance, politics, religion and state, minority-majority relations, and the fight against terrorism with some of Israel’s leading scholars. Each session consists of a presentation by an IDI Senior Fellow, followed by a discussion on the evening’s topic.

On November 2nd, 2009, the Atlanta community came together to discuss "Israel's Arabs: On Majority-Minority Relations in the State of Israel." The debate was framed and lead by IDI  Vice President, Prof. Mordechai Kremnitzer.

IDI's Israel as a Democracy symposium series is being co-sponsored by the Israeli Consulate to the Southeastern United States, the American Jewish Committee, the Anti-Defamation League, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta.

Program Feedback

“What a pleasure to listen to a scholar who has information as well as understanding. It was a great evening and I left more knowledgeable and more hopeful, because of the existence of a forum like this, than usual.”
 B.R – Atlanta, GA

“The IDI's work is so meaningful…being change agents to create better community is part of the very fabric of being a US citizen. Unfortunately many people forget. I hope Professor Kremnitzer's statements serve as a reminder to us all.”
 D.S. – Atlanta, GA

“We just returned last week from a visit to Israel, and left feeling that the prospects for resolution were dismal.  After hearing you tonight, we have renewed hope.  Thank you for your commitment.  We admire the work you are doing.”
