Event Date(s):
6/26/2000 - 6/27/2000

Academic Director: Professor Ben-Zion Zilberfarb

Chaired by: Minister Haim Ramon

The 2000 Annual Economic Conference, the Caesarea Conference, now in its 8th year, was held in Nazareth on 26-27 June 2000 - after the government had been in power for one year. The new government declared its intention to act towards effecting changes in the public sector and in national priorities. The conference topics, though determined many months in advance, fit in well with this plan. The Conference included a traditional discussion of recommendations for priorities in the upcoming budget (2001). Guest speaker Professor Alberto Alesina from Harvard was among the speakers in the first session.

The following sessions were held:

  1. The Institutional Infrastructure for a Fiscal Policy

  2. Industries of the Future

  3. Industry in Israel

  4. The Arab Sector in the Israeli Economy
