On Sunday, March 15th, IDI’s George Shultz Roundtable Forum will convene to discuss issues of religion and state in Israel. The topics will include: the Sabbath, conversion, and marriage.
Today’s coalition negotiations appear to be placing Israel’s major civil institutions in the hands, once again, of the ultra-Orthodox parties. As a result of this likely scenario, sizable social groups in Israel will remain discriminated against and marginalized. IDI’s roundtable discussion seeks to involve all sectors within Israeli society in dialogue concerning these all-important national dilemmas and challenges to the democratic and Jewish character of the State.
