Event Date(s):
7/14/1999 - 7/15/1999

Academic Director: Professor Avi Ben-Bassat
Chaired by: Minister of Finance Avraham Shochat

The 1999 Caesarea Conference was held in Ashkelon on 14-15 July 1999, shortly after the elections for the Knesset and Prime Minister. It is commonly known that in most cases the effectiveness of governments is especially high during the first year of their tenures. Therefore, the 1999 conference aimed to stimulate the government to adopt a comprehensive macroeconomic policy that would extricate the economy from the recession and renew the momentum of structural reforms in the Israeli economy.

The following sessions were held:

  1. A Comprehensive Plan for Renewing Economic Growth

  2. Globalization and the Israeli Economy: Lessons from the monetary crisis in Israel and around the world for structuring the foreign currency market in Israel

  3. Growth and Employment towards 2005 – short and long-term goals

  4. Israel's Integration in the Global Economy
