9th Annual Caesarea Economic Policy Planning Forum (2001)

The 9th Annual Economic Conference, the 2001 Caesarea Conference, was held at its original venue, Caesarea, on 20-21 June 2001. The conference itself is the culmination of an effort that lasted many months, with four research teams analyzing and preparing recommendations on the four topics addressed respectively during the four sessions of the conference.

The following topics were discussed:

  1. Growth – The team headed by Professor Yossi Zeira focused on clarifying the indicators related to long-term growth.

  2. Inequality in Income Distribution – The team headed by MK Dan Meridor dealt with this increasingly prominent social issue in the Israeli reality, especially over the last decade.

  3. The Health System – The team headed by Professor Gur Ofer examined the practical implications of the reform in the health system, especially in a number of acute areas.

  4. Macroeconomic Policy in 2000-2001 – The team headed by Professor Zvi Eckstein reviewed a platform for discussing macroeconomic policy, in light of the political crisis in our region and the new trends in the world economy.
