Dr. Nitzan Lebovic was an IDI Researcher from 2007-2010, when he was appointed Apter Chair of Holocaust Studies and Ethical Values at Lehigh University, Pennsylvania. With a PhD from UCLA, Dr. Lebovic has written extensively about topics in German and German-Jewish history, with his doctoral dissertation focusing on pre-Nazi rhetoric in Germany and the rise of anti-Semitism.
During 2008-2010, Nitzan Lebovic conducted research on political education in Israel and Germany at the Israel Democracy Institute, and led a research group on the concept of nihilism and the limits of political critique at the Van Leer Institute. He also edited special issues of The New German Critique ("Political Theology, Fall 2008) and of Zmanim: The Tel- Aviv Journal of History ("Religion and Power," Summer 2008) and has published articles about film, literature, and the intellectual history of contemporary politics.
One of Dr. Lebovic's areas of interest is different aspects of bio-politics. One product of his research in that field is "The State of Israel and the Biometric Database Law: Political Centrism and the Post-Democratic State," a research article written with advocate Avner Pinchuk of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, which can be read on this site.
