Saul Singer, the co-author of the best-selling book Start-Up Nation: The Story of Israel's Economic Miracle, is currently an Adjunct Senior Fellow at IDI. A former Editorial Page Editor and columnist at the Jerusalem Post, he has written for the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, CNN-Opinion, Commentary, the Wilson Quarterly, and other publications. Before moving to Israel in 1994, Mr. Singer served for ten years as an adviser to different Members of Congress and on the staffs of the House Foreign Affairs and Senate Banking Committees.
Start-Up Nation, which was co-authored with Dan Senor, sparked reactions as diverse as Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declaring, “We are the Start-Up Nation!” to CNN’s Fareed Zakaria calling it “A book every single Arab businessman, Arab bureaucrat, and Arab politician should read.” Tom Brokaw dubbed it “a playbook for every CEO who wants to develop the next generation of corporate leaders.” The book has reached #5 on the New York Times and Wall Street Journal business bestseller lists, and is a bestseller in Israel, India, and Singapore. Published in 17 languages including Japanese, Bulgarian, and Mongolian, Start-Up Nation is dedicated in part to Singer’s brother, Alex Singer, who fell in battle while serving in the IDF, and whose writings and art are collected in the book Alex: Building a Life.
In conjunction with the launch of Chinese edition of Start-Up Nation, Mr. Singer attended the 2010 World Economic Forum’s “Summer Davos” conference in Tianjin, spoke at Peking University, and at the Israeli pavilion of the Shanghai Expo. He has given numerous keynotes relating to Israel and innovation, including presentations in Sydney, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Mumbai, Prague, at the European Parliament in Brussels, the German Ministry of Economics and Technology in Berlin, and throughout the United States.
In Israel, Mr. Singer has briefed visiting executives from or spoken at the Israeli headquarters of companies such as: Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & Gamble, Xerox, Mars, General Electric, IBM, AT&T, Alcatel Lucent, Medtronic, Microsoft, HP, Orange and Dupont. He has also briefed numerous delegations of Members of the United States Congress and visiting journalists, academics, and business leaders.
Saul Singer serves on the advisory boards of Vintage Investment Partners, an Israeli fund of funds, and Tevel B’Tsedek, an Israeli NGO working in Nepal and Haiti. He lives in Jerusalem with his wife and three children, and is currently writing a book on the role of business in changing the world.
